British MPs urge action on NFT copyright infringement, crypto fan tokens

A U.K. parliamentary committee called for a crack down on sports fan tokens and recommended the government issue a code of conduct for NFT platforms. A bipartisan parliamentary committee has urged the British government to protect creators from copyright infringement associated with nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and address potential harms from sporting groups issuing digital assets. In an Oct. 11 press release, Culture, Media and Sport Committee members warned the “most pressing issue” was the risk to artists’ intellectual property rights arising from the ease and speed at which NFTs can be minted, compared to the slow process for artists looking to enforce their rights. “Artists are at risk of seeing the fruits of their hard work pinched and promoted without permission while fraudulent and misleading adverts add an extra layer of jeopardy for investors involved in what is already an inherently risky business,” said committee chair Dame Caroline Dinenage. Optimism airdrops 19.4m of free OP tokens

The Ethereum scaling protocol allocated $26.7 million in free coins to wallets that delegated their OP tokens to community votes and on-chain governance. Layer-2 network Optimism airdropped 19.4 million of its native token OP to 31,879 unique addresses with on-chain participation between January and July 2023. Amidst false reports of rapper Lil Tay’s death, the crypto realm sees the baffling rise of two “LilTay” tokens, sparking intrigue and speculation. The sudden appearance of two crypto tokens named “LilTay” has intrigued and confused the crypto community.  With one on the BNB Chain and another on the Ethereum (ETH) platform, the situation is rife with speculation and cautionary tales.  The stage was set with a false death report of 14-year-old rapper Lil Tay, whose real name is Tay Tien. Celsius sells $23.5 million of tokens days after former CEO was arrest

Celsius Network, which filed for bankruptcy in 2022, is selling its crypto holdings as the broader market recovers, partly due to Ripple’s win against the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Data provided by Lookonchain shows that Celsius has already sold roughly $23.5 million worth of cryptocurrencies — including $8.5 million of chainlink (LINK), $7.84 million of synthetix (SNX), $3 million of BNB, $2.26 million from 1inch (1INCH), and $1.9 million worth of ox protocol (ZRX).  Notice that #Celsius started selling altcoins. 1.27M $LINK ($8.5M), 2.83M $SNX ($7.84M), 12,597 $BNB ($3M), 4.45M 1INCH ($2.26M), 8.53M $ZRX ($1.9M), and 439K $FTX ($713K) were transferred to #FalconX. NFT marketplace tokens are gaining the market’s attention and Blur’s recent airdrop could extend the trend. Cumulative NFT trading volume trended higher in January and data from a recent Delphi Digital report showed monthly volumes reaching an eight-month high above $1 billion. The key factor that influenced NFT trading was Blur token airdrop on Feb. 14.
